A Serving At The Mission

This past Wednesday 6/9/10, Amber and i went and served lunch at the lighthouse mission. We were there at 11:15 and signed in. We then headed to the kitchen to see what we needed to do. We were told to wash our hands with the other volunteers and put on gloves and a hair net. Let me tell ya...i'm not a huge fan of tan colored hair nets lol. Then they put us to work. Amber was in charge of the cooked carrots and i served up their choice of potato salad, cottage cheese, yogurt, or fresh veggies and dip. The residents of the mission were served first and there were quite a few of them. After the residents were served and had time to sit, eat, and visit with one another they dispersed. The public then had the chance to come in and receive a good meal. Both the residents and the public persons were the most polite people i have ever seen in my life. For people with nothing and having to humiliate themselves enough to come to a mission to even receive a hot meal, they were so very polite.....even the children. I know people in my life that have everything they they could possible want or even need, and yet they want more. Tis a sad thing when the ones with non are more grateful then those who live like kings. I am a lucky girl when it comes to family and material things. I have a great family who loves me for who i am and a wonderful circle of friends who always have my back. :) But i am one who has too many not needed material things. I have never had to go without something that was truly needed, never had to beg for a meal, never had to really want something that i really couldn't have.....but when i see those who really are in a time of need and trouble, i feel like the luckiest girl alive. It makes me see what i have and how lucky i am to be supported and loved and taken care of. It also sometimes makes me feel ungrateful and selfish when i have tons and others have none. I want to make a difference in this world and help those who are truly in need. Those who are fighting to survive and those who just need Jesus in their lives. To have him, is to feel whole, connected, and loved. When he is on you side, nothing is impossible!!! I feel like a make a difference just by going and helping to serve a simple meal to Jesus's people. I hope to spread the word of god throughout and show them what gods love has done for me in my life and why they need to receive or keep him in their hearts as well!!!!
